Standard construction contracts set the rulebook for project Success or failure on a project. Contract terms increase the price of project by 20% or more according to some studies. Case law, technology, delivery methods, processes, and insurance have changed dramatically over the past 10 years. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) updates its most used standard construction documents only once every 10 years. The 2017 edition of AIA A201 General Condition document will soon be the only A201 edition and it contains some important changes. ConsensusDocs, a coalition of 40 leading construction organizations that includes AGC, ABC and COAA published comprehensive updates to its standard prime contracts with integrated general conditions, subcontracts, design-build agreements, and CM@R agreements. Learn how to leverage these new documents in your next contract negotiations and understand the advantages and potential disadvantages of using these new standard contract documents.
