At its heart, this session is a survey of Excel’s capability in the area of looking up data from one place in another. While the concept sounds simple, it rarely is when it comes to the various ways we get data and the myriad ways we need to use it. Instead of bending formulas and data to the will of the functions we know, you'll learn other functions that can work with your data just the way it is to complete a variety of tasks.
From augmenting one list with data from another to uncovering anomalies, filling your toolbox with more lookup tools can lead you to better, more efficient and more accurate solutions. We’ll also cover the limitations and pitfalls of each technique, so you know which one is best for a particular use. Learn the finer points of lookup function arguments and how they can help (or trip you up) with non-standard lookup jobs.
We’ll also cover how to construct, format and identify lists to take full advantage of the power of this application. Once you know what you need your data to like, you can refine your work processes to set you up for repeated success.
