Overview of the webinar

The National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) is the federal agency where information is stored regarding settlements, jury verdicts, and any adverse action related to a practitioner. As an example, if a malpractice action is settled by the insurer on behalf of the doctor, it must be reported to the NPDB and becomes part of the settling practitioner’s permanent.
The information in the NPDB is not available to the general public, but there are a number of different types of organizations and institutions which have access to the Data Bank. Hospitals are required to query the NPDB before granting privileges to a practitioner and before renewing those privileges. The information maintained by the NPDB could have serious implications for a practitioner seeking privileges or licensure.
We will review the reporting requirements of the National Practitioner Data Bank and who has access to those reports. We will also discuss how practitioners can access the NPDB and find out what has been reported about them.

Who should attend?

• Physicians
• Other practitioners
• Legal counsel representing practitioners
• Consultants who advise practitioners

Why should you attend?

It is critical for physicians and other practitioners to ensure that whatever information maintained by the NPDB is accurate. This webinar will provide information about how to access the NPDB information and how to correct inaccurate information that the NPDB may be maintaining. You should be (1) aware of said information and (2) most importantly, ensure that the information is accurate.
